The Fivefold Ministry
Christ gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12). Their purpose is not titles, but the maturing and equipping of every believer for faithful service.
Apostle
The sent one — establishing churches, laying foundations, and providing oversight that extends the Kingdom of Christ.
Prophet
Hearing and declaring God's heart — calling believers to alignment with Scripture, repentance, and the purposes of God.
Evangelist
Proclaiming the gospel — bringing the good news of Jesus to the lost and equipping believers to share their faith.
Pastor
Shepherding the flock — caring for believers, fostering community, and nurturing spiritual growth and wholeness.
Teacher
Opening the Scriptures — grounding believers in sound doctrine and helping them live out the truth of God's Word.
